Baldi & Caratsch is a Swiss litigation boutique with offices in Zurich. The firm has been involved in various major fraud disputes and supported other FraudNet members in transnational cases, including the freezing of assets concealed on Swiss bank accounts, assistance in international legal assistance matters and recovery proceedings, institution of local criminal proceedings in aid of a request for tracing concealed assets or a money laundering investigation, recognition of foreign bankruptcy proceedings and of foreign interlocutory measures in Switzerland.

Michele Caratsch holds a law degree of the University of Zurich and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) of New York University. He was admitted to the Zurich Bar in 1991 and to the New York Bar in 1995.

He heads the litigation team of B&C, and specialises in complex commercial litigation and arbitration, with a particular focus on fraud and asset recovery. Michele Caratsch represented clients in several court proceedings, coordinated transnational fraud recovery proceedings in various jurisdictions which involved asset tracing and obtainance of freezing orders in multiple jurisdictions and advised foreign state bodies in formulating requests for mutual assistance directed to Switzerland. He speaks German, Italian and English and is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.

Tobias is a partner at Baldi & Caratsch, a Zurich-based law firm specialised in asset tracing & recovery and civil litigation. He mainly represents individuals and companies in civil courts, criminal proceedings and bankruptcy proceedings in Switzerland in cases arising out of fraud and other economic crimes. His practice further includes commercial litigation, attachment and enforcement proceedings, criminal defence and international arbitration. Tobias has a thorough command of public international law, having interned at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague and practised in investment arbitration at a leading arbitration firm in Vienna.

Tobias is a founder and co-director of Private Claimants Network PCN, a network of Swiss attorneys aiming to strengthen the legal representation of victims of crime in criminal proceedings, and a member of the Zurich Bar Association; Swiss Bar Association, and the Practice Groups of the Zurich Bar Association in Arbitration, Criminal Defence and Debt Enforcement and Bankruptcy Law.

He holds a licence en droit from the University of Geneva as well as an LL.M. and a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, where he was awarded the Yorke Prize for his Ph.D. thesis. The Prize is awarded annually by the Faculty of Law at the University of Cambridge for a doctoral thesis of “exceptional quality”, “which makes a substantial contribution to a field of legal knowledge”. Tobias also obtained a practice diploma in arbitration from the Austrian Arbitration Academy and VIAC.
